      Maldivian president offers condolences to Bangladesh, Nepal over air crash

      MALE, March 14 (Xinhua) -- Maldivian President Abdulla Yameen offered his condolences Wednesday to the Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina and the Prime Minister of Nepal Khadga Prasad Sharma Oli, following the crash of a US-Bangla Airlines Flight at the Kathmandu International Airport.

      A statement from the President's Office said Yameen expressed his profound shock and sadness after learning the news of the plane crash causing the loss of lives and injury to many.

      Yameen extended deepest sympathies of the government and the people of Maldives to the prime ministers and also conveyed heartfelt condolences to the members of the bereaved families, and offered prayers for a speedy recovery for all injured.

      The US-Bangla Airlines Flight was travelling from Dhaka to Kathmandu with 71 people including the crew, when it crashed at the airport runway.

      At least 51 were confirmed dead in the crash.
