HANOI, July 17 (Xinhua) -- An Interpol Red Notice has been published for a 61-year-old Vietnamese woman, leader of a ring which has smuggled a large amount of drugs from Cambodia to Vietnam, according to the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security on Tuesday.
The woman named Vu Hoang Oanh from northern Hai Phong city has escaped, widely thought to Cambodia since May when local police raided nine places in Ho Chi Minh City, arrested seven local members of the ring, and seized 39 cakes of heroin, 30 kg of crystal methamphetamine, and 103,000 pills of ecstasy.
Red Notice is a request to locate and provisionally arrest an individual pending extradition.
Subject to a Red Notice, criminals and suspects are flagged to border officials, making travel difficult.
According to Vietnamese law, those convicted of smuggling over 600 grams of heroin or more than 2.5 kg of methamphetamine are punishable by death. Making or trading 100 grams of heroin or 300 grams of other illegal drugs also faces death penalty.
