ANKARA, Dec. 21 (Xinhua) -- Turkish Foreign Ministry on Thursday summoned a senior United Arab Emirates (UAE) diplomat over a tweet posted by the UAE Foreign Minister that offended Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, local media reported.

According to state-run Anadolu Agency, the UAE Charge D'Affaires in Ankara was summoned and informed about Turkey's concern over the tweet targeting Fahreddin Pasha, the Ottoman governor of Medina from 1916-1919.

The UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed al-Nahyan on Saturday retweeted a post accusing that Ottoman forces stole manuscripts from the holy city of Medina during World War One, saying those people were "Erdogan's ancestors."

On Wednesday, Erdogan hit the allegation back, stressing it was not stealing but "protecting the holy relics of the Prophet Mohamed" from British invasion of Hejaz -- present day western Saudi Arabia.
