YANGON, Jan. 26 (Xinhua) -- The Myanmar government has decided to terminate Bill Richardson, a former U.S. state governor, as a member of the Advisory Board for the Committee for Implementation of the Recommendations on Rakhine state.

According to a press release of the Ministry of the State Counselor's Office late Thursday, the government decided that his continued participation on the board would not be in the best interest of all concerned in view of the difference of opinion that developed.

Organized by the government, the advisory board visited Rakhine state on Wednesday, where they were shown the preparation work on acceptance of refugees returning from Bangladesh.

The advisory board, established with five foreign and five domestic experts in December last year, is to provide necessary advice for the effective implementation of the recommendations of the Advisory Commission on Rakhine State, led by former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan.

The advisory board met with State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi on Monday and discussed a work plan on the repatriation of displaced people from Bangladesh fleeing Rakhine conflict.

The ARSA extremist terrorists launched attacks on police outposts in Rakhine on Aug. 25 last year, displacing residents from a number of areas in Maungtaw district.
