LISBON, Jan. 29 (Xinhua) -- The death toll from a fire that raged through a village community center in northern Portugal on Jan. 13 climbed to 11 on Monday.
A 57-year-old man died at the Santa Maria hospital in Lisbon in the early hours of Monday, the Portuguese Lusa News Agency reported.
The most recent casualty follows the death of another man, also in his 50s, on Saturday in the Prelada Hospital in Porto.
The fire broke out on Saturday night in a cultural center in Vila Nova da Rainha, a village 250 km north of Lisbon.
The heat from a wood-burning stove caused the roof to catch fire and collapse on a room full of people, many of them elderly.
Eight people died immediately and a ninth victim died in hospital on Jan. 17.
Of the 11 dead, ten were men and all were over the age of 50.
The injured were taken to hospitals in Lisbon, Porto, Coimbra and Viseu. There are still three victims in hospital in Lisbon, and another four in Coimbra.
