BOGOTA, Feb. 10 (Xinhua) -- Presumed elements of the National Liberation Army (ELN) carried out two attacks in northern Colombia, destroying a bridge and a section of highway linking the center of the country with the Caribbean area.

The army said that these actions took place after the ELN announced a three-day ceasefire, because President Juan Manuel Santos suspended peace talks with the guerrilla movement.

Military authorities blamed the events on the Camile Torres Restrepo front of the ELN.

A ceasefire struck last year between the government and the ELN during peace talks in Ecuador ended in January, leading the guerrilla group to resume its campaigns of violence.

President Santos suspended the peace talks on Jan. 29 after the rebel group carried out a series of attacks against police, leaving seven officers dead and over 40 injured.

However, the ELN has stated it is ready to return to the negotiating table.
