WUHAN, May 10 (Xinhua) -- A heritage park in central China's Hubei Province will open to the public at the end of 2018, authorities said Thursday.

The Panlong City Ruins, featuring bronze from the Shang Dynasty (1600 B.C.-1046 B.C.), were the first of their kind discovered in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River.

Located along Panlong Lake in Wuhan, Hubei's capital, the site was discovered in 1954 and has been named one of China's top 100 archaeological discoveries of the 20th century.

A heritage park at the site is under construction. The park covers 4.22 square km, and will include a museum. Construction of the museum, which will house more than 2,000 artifacts, began in 2017.

"Once the park opens, it will allow visitors to experience a sense of history up close," said Zhang Changping, a professor at Wuhan University.
