JAKARTA, May 18 (Xinhua) -- Indonesian prosecutors demanded Friday death sentence for a radical cleric, also the leader of a militant group involved recently in a series of suicide assaults in the country that had left 31 dead.

Aman Abdurrahman, also known as Oman Rahman, is considered de facto leader of Jamaah Ansharut Daulah (JAD) whose members were the assailants in a police prison riot as well as in suicide bombings in churches and police headquarters in the country since last Friday, according to the police.

Abdurrahman, a key ideologue for IS militants in Indonesia, also ordered a suicide attack in the country's capital on Jan. 24, 2016 that killed 4 civilians and 4 bombers, the court session said.

"(The prosecutors) demand the judge panel hand down a death sentence to defendant Oman alias Aman Abdurrahman or Abu Sulaiman," said a prosecutor.

Police have dispatched over 100 personnel from anti-terror squad and paramilitary units to guard the court session.

Suicide bombers blew themselves up in a series of attacks on three churches Sunday in Surabaya city, the provincial capital of East Java and a suicide bombing in the police headquarters in the city on Monday.

The suicide attacks were followed by a sword-wielding assault in the police headquarters in Riau province on Wednesday. All the terrorist strikes were linked to one family including women and children.

National Police Chief General Tito Karnavian revealed that members of the JAD, a splinter cell of Jemaah Islamiyah militant group, had staged the assaults.?
