LONDON, July 22 (Xinhua) -- An invasion of bees are preparing to set Manchester buzzing on Monday when the swarm arrives on city streets.
It is the latest, and most dramatic, example of street art seen in a British city, using large sized, colorful bees in an intriguing bee trail across the city. It has been described as the biggest, most spectacular, mass participation public art event in Manchester's history.
The Bee in the City trail will feature 101 of bee sculptures, given a colorful makeover to resemble things such as an astronaut, robot and even a rock star.
Some of the famous names from the city's two Premier League football clubs, Manchester United and Manchester City, have also been given their own designs.
Each bee has been designed by a different artist to celebrate the unique buzz of Manchester, from its industrial heritage to its vibrant music scene.
The worker bee features in the city's official coat of arms, and became the emblem used by citizens as they vowed to show it was business as usual following the terror attack on the Manchester Arena which killed 22 people and injured hundreds more.
The Bee in the City trail runs from July 23 until September 23.
Sir Richard Leese, leader of Manchester City Council, said the bee symbolizes the industrious, creative and energetic spirit of Manchester and its people and the event will build on the city's reputation for innovation.
