ANKARA, Aug. 17 (Xinhua) -- Turkish Finance Minister Berat Albayrak and his French counterpart Bruno Le Maire on Friday discussed U.S. sanctions against Turkey and agreed to act together, the Turkish ministry said in a written statement.

The two ministers decided to work closely to develop cooperation between Turkey and France and agreed to meet in Paris on Aug. 27, the statement said.

On Thursday, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron spoke by phone and exchanged views on the importance of developing economic and trade ties.

The talks come as the United States and Turkey, two major NATO allies, are engaged in a bitter diplomatic and trade dispute over the detention of an American pastor accused of terror related charges that has helped drive the Turkish currency to record lows last week before recovering some of its losses in recent days.

Turkey on Wednesday doubled tariffs on several U.S. goods, including cars and alcohol products, after U.S. President Donald Trump increased U.S. tariffs on Turkish aluminum and steel imports to 20 percent and 50 percent, respectively.
