KABUL, Sept. 2 (Xinhua) -- Another U.S. military commander General Austin Scott Miller took over the command of NATO-led Resolute Support (RS) mission from his fellow American General John Nicholson in a ceremony held at the RS Headquarters on Sunday.

Addressing the command handing over ceremony, attended by Afghan senior officials and Kabul-based diplomats, General Miller said NATO partners and Afghan forces have sacrificed much over the past 17 years.

The new commander of the NATO-led Resolute Support mission and the U.S. Forces-Afghanistan also commended all NATO commanders for the work they have done in Afghanistan.

Speaking on the occasion, the outgoing U.S. commander General John Nicholson said it "has been a distinct honor to serve the Afghan people."

The more than 16,000-strong NATO-led RS mission with the majority of them Americans are reportedly stationed in Afghanistan to train, advice and support the Afghan forces in the "war on terror".
