NEW DELHI, Sept. 21 (Xinhua) -- India Friday called off foreign minister-level talks with Pakistan that were scheduled to be held in New York later this month, officials said.

The talks were scrapped a day after New Delhi agreed to Islamabad's proposal of holding talks between the foreign ministers in New York.

"Since yesterday's announcement of a meeting between the foreign ministers of India and Pakistan in New York later this month, two deeply disturbing developments have taken place," India's foreign ministry spokesperson Raveesh Kumar told media.

Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj was initially scheduled to meet her Pakistani counterpart Shah Mehmood Qureshi in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly later this month, according to Raveesh Kumar on Thursday.

The two countries are currently at loggerheads with each other. There has been no considerable improvement in the relations of the two countries or resumption of bilateral relations ever since Narendra Modi became the Prime Minister of India in 2014.?
