CHONGQING, Oct. 5 (Xinhua) -- Southwest China's Chongqing Municipality released a three-year action plan to fight for cleaner air, according to the municipal environmental protection bureau.
Chongqing will commit to reducing major air pollutants, including PM2.5 and ozone and nitrogen oxide, in the next three years. By 2020, Chongqing will see over 300 good-air days in a year, according to the action plan.
Small coal-fired boilers, with a steam generating capacity of no more than 35 tonnes per hour, will be eliminated in Chongqing's city proper by 2020. Several freight stations will be relocated to reduce pollution. The area of urban green land will grow by 1,500 hectares every year.
To ensure the effective curb of air pollution, Chongqing will also build a platform to supervise the sources of pollution.
By 2020, the average PM2.5 density will be below 40 micrograms per cubic meter, the plan said.
PM2.5, airborne particles smaller than 2.5 micrometers in diameter, pose a significant risk to health.
