TOKYO, Dec. 4 (Xinhua) -- A wild boar bit off the finger of an 86-year-old Japanese woman in the western city of Ashiya, Hyogo Prefecture, before it was captured and killed by police and members from a hunting club, local media reported Tuesday.
The 86-year-old woman made an emergency call for an ambulance at around 10:00 a.m. local time, telling first responders that the animal had bitten off the middle finger of her left hand, local police said.
It took police and members of a local hunting club around an hour to capture, subdue and finally kill the animal, by stabbing it with knives and beating the boar with sticks, batons and other weapons, according to local reports.
The female wild boar, measuring just over 1 meter in length, attacked another elderly lady in an earlier incident, leaving her with injuries to her left hand, local police also reported.
In this particular part of western Japan, it is not uncommon to see wild boars as their natural habitat is the Rokko mountain range area.
The animals roam into residential areas in search of food.
