AMMAN, Jan. 12 (Xinhua) -- Jordan on Saturday called for international efforts to end the stalemate in the peace process between Israelis and Palestinians, state-run Petra news agency reported.

The call was made by Minister of Foreign Affairs Ayman Safadi during his meeting with Saeb Erekat, visiting secretary general of the executive committee of the Palestinian Liberation Organization, over the unilateral Israeli measures that undermine the two-state solution.

"The international community needs to take action to end the stalemate and create new horizons for serious and effective peace talks to realize the two-state solution that leads to the creation of an independent Palestinian state at the borders of 1967 with East Jerusalem as its capital," said Safadi.

They also demanded firm international action against the Israeli settlement activities which violate the international laws.

The two officials described Jerusalem as a redline, warning against Israel's attempts to alter its Arabic, Islamic and Christian identity.
