LUSAKA, Jan. 15 (Xinhua) -- A conference aimed at reviewing Zambia's education sector opened Tuesday with Vice-president Inonge Wina assuring that the government was committed to improving the education standards in the country.
The three-day conference, being held under the theme "Improving the Quality of Zambia's Education Sector: the Education We Want," has attracted experts in the education sector to brainstorm on the country's education system.
The Zambian vice-president said the government was committed to ensuring that it records improvement in the education sector as it was vital for the development of the country's human capacity.
She said this could only be done by enhancing the formal and informal education systems in the country.
The conference, she said, should critically analyze the current education system in the country and come up with ways of improving it so that it contributes to the country's social economic development.
She however said the government was already doing something to improve the education standards through improving the quality of infrastructure and the introduction of student loans in public universities.
David Mabumba, Minister of General Education, said the country's education sector has evolved over the years with a view to improve the quality and education for all.
The conference, he said, will explore ways and mechanisms to further improve the quality and access of education.
