BERLIN, May 13 (Xinhua) -- Anthony Ujah's brace helped Mainz to overcome Eintracht Frankfurt 2-0 at the closer of the 33rd round of Bundesliga action on Sunday.

The Eagles suffered a setback in the hunt for a berth in UEFA Champions League as Mainz inflicted Frankfurt the fifth winless game in row.

Frankfurt took the reins from the kick off and pressed the visitors into defence. It took the hosts 18 minutes before Ante Rebic pulled over the target from promising position.

Passive Mainz came only to one chance in the first half as Kunde Malong's deflected shot came dangerously close in the 21st minute.

The game came eventually to life after the restart when Jean-Philippe Mateta's lob allowed Anthony Ujah to slot home the opener for Mainz from inside the box with 53 minutes played.

Things went from bad to worse within four minutes for Frankfurt as Mainz doubled their lead through Ujah, who sealed his brace into the far post corner.

With the two-goal lead behind, Mainz kept all their men behind the ball but still they had a tough time to keep the hosts on the distance.

However, neither Luka Jovic nor Ante Rebic were able to make the most of their chances. Mainz protected their lead to the end to hijack all three points from rivals Frankfurt.

"All things considered we are very happy with the victory and how it was achieved. That was the proof that we do not want to let the season slip away," Mainz' head coach Sandro Schwarz said.

With the result, Frankfurt slip to the sixth place with a one-point deficit to the UEFA Champions League spots meanwhile Mainz stay on the 12th position.
