RABAT, June 5 (Xinhua) -- Moroccan King Mohammed VI granted pardon to 755 Prisoners on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr holiday, said a statement from the Moroccan Justice ministry late Tuesday.
Eid al-Fitr, marking the end of Muslim holy month of Ramadan, is celebrated on Wednesday in Morocco.
Among these people, 11 who were detained over extremism and terrorism and participated in the third edition of the "Reconciliation" program (Musalaha), were released.
The 11 detainees had officially announced their rejection of all forms of extremism and terrorism, the statement added.
A total of 60 prisoners were pardoned over participating in the social events in northern region of Al Hoceima in 2016 while 47 inmates were pardoned over taking part in the social events in the eastern Jerada region in 2016, the statement said.
Considering the family and human circumstances of the persons sentenced in connection with the events in the Al Hoceima and Jerada regions, the king also granted pardon to several convicted persons who did not commit crimes and serious acts, the statement added.
The events of Al Hoceima and Jerada errupted in 2016 as popular protests over lack of economic and social development.
