BEIJING, June 18 (Xinhua) -- The Ministry of Ecology and Environment (MEE) on Tuesday initiated an emergency response and arranged all-around preventive measures to prevent secondary environmental incidents after the earthquake.
Local eco-environmental departments are in the process of carrying out environmental safety inspections, Xinhua learned from the MEE.
No secondary environmental emergencies were found in the quake-stricken city of Yibin, after the local bureau of ecology and environment checked industrial parks, key risk-source enterprises, drinking water sources, landfills and urban sewage treatment plants, according to the MEE.
Key environmental targets including shale gas production platforms and gas pipelines in several counties also reported no secondary disasters.
The nuclear and radiation safety situation reported no abnormalities, and the monitoring data of the radiation environment was at a normal level, the MEE said.
The ministry urged local departments to take measures in risk prevention and contingency preparations, and to guide relevant enterprises and institutions in risk screening and rectification.
A 6.0-magnitude earthquake hit Changning County of Yibin, Sichuan Province at 10:55 p.m. Monday.
