RAMALLAH, July 12 (Xinhua) -- Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin agreed in a telephone conversation on Friday that political solution is a priority for reaching a just and everlasting peace in the region.

The official Palestinian news agency WAFA said that the two leaders deeply reviewed all issues, including the U.S.-proposed peace plan, known as Deal of the Century, the U.S.-led economic workshop held in Bahrain, and the two-state solution.

The report said that Abbas explained to his Russian counterpart the tense between the Palestinians and the Israelis and Israel's daily violations of the Palestinians, including digging a tunnel in Jerusalem to change the status of Arab Jerusalem.

Abbas also briefed Putin on the recent Israeli cuts of the tax revenue dues that Israel collects on behalf of the Palestinians at commercial crossings it controls, according to the report.

"Abbas also said that he is committed to making internal reconciliation based on the Cairo Agreement signed with Hamas in October 2017," said the report.

Putin affirmed the necessity of commitment to international legitimacy in a bid to find a peaceful settlement to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, adding that he will continue to work with the Americans and Israelis to reinforce the two-state solution.
