MOSCOW, Nov. 19 (Xinhua) -- Two Russian astronauts have conducted a spacewalk to prepare the Russian segment of the International Space Station (ISS) for the arrival of a new scientific module.

The 47th Russian spacewalk lasted six hours and 48 minutes on Wednesday, the country's state space corporation Roscosmos said in a statement.

It was the first time Roscosmos astronauts Sergei Ryzhikov and Sergei Kud-Sverchkov used the Poisk (Search) module as an exit into space rather than the Pirs (Pier) module, which will be undocked in the near future.

The astronauts carried out leak inspections, installed necessary equipment and prepared for the multifunctional Nauka (Science) research module, which is planned to replace the Pirs module next year.

The Poisk module launched 11 years ago is used for docking Russia's Soyuz manned spaceships, which were the only tool for commuting between the ISS and the Earth before the Crew Dragon spacecraft of U.S. firm SpaceX. Enditem
